WaaaghPaca 2013: Overview

It's time for the WaaaghPaca! 2013 tournament breakdown. This post will be similar to my Alamo 2012 tournament breakdown and overview. Thus said, you know what to expect.

This Past Weekend: January 27, 2013

This weekend I found myself cleaning house. After having spent many weeknights and weekends painting feverishly (well, feverishly for me anyways), and having spent five days away from home only to come back to more work than I remembered, it was time for me to spend some serious time getting my normal life in order. For me, that means making sure my work clothes and suits are clean and ironed (which takes forever), that there are groceries in the refrigerator (so I don't spend all my money eating out during the week), and generally cleaning the place up so it looks presentable enough that my girlfriend is willing to stay there at night (which requires a bathroom much cleaner than any male should keep it).

Because of these activities, very little hobbying was accomplished. The most impressive activity I managed was importing all of the WaaaghPaca pictures from my camera and my phone onto my computer and organizing them so I can upload them onto the blog. There are some really great photos from this tournament that I can't wait to share from interesting Man of Intrigue models to fantastically painted armies to hilarious photos of my opponents not to mention photos from my five games of Warhammer. I expect to have at least the Tournament Overview post finished and uploaded by the end of this week and if I can find a couple more spare hours I will also finish up my Round 1 battle report against Brad Schwandt and his Skaven army!

On another note, I have been sneakily purchasing Squigs and Squig Herders for my upcoming Night Goblin army. Right now I have managed to get an old package of Squig Herders, some old Squigs, and a couple of plastic Fanatics which I will be converting to be spinning Squigs about instead of cannon balls.

2012/2013 Asrai Miniature Exchange

As I mentioned at the end of last year, I signed up for the 2012/2013 miniature exchange on the Asrai.org forums. I have been diligently (well, somewhat diligently) working on the model that I am sending out and hope to finish it in the next week or two. Luckily for me, however, the person who painted a model for me was not such a big slacker and I received my model this week. It is a scratch built Snotling Pump Wagon for my burgeoning Goblin army. Take a look:

Back From WaaaghPaca 2013

Well I am back from WaaaghPaca! 2013, and I had a blast. I didn't do quite as well as I hoped, but that was based on my paint score which I knew would be on the lower end of the spectrum. However, I did perform well in the games I played. I managed to keep my losses to a minimum and pulled off a couple of very nice wins (though two of them were really lucky).

I will have an overview of the tournament up pretty soon and will be working on my battle reports in the coming days. I hope to have all of them up sooner than the ones from the Alamo and will hopefully be posting them starting next week (and hopefully every other day).

West Coast Hammertime Episode #11

West Coast Hammertime Episode 11 is now up and available for all to listen to. This episode includes more overviews of the plans for the upcoming West Coast GT the second weekend of March in Mission Viejo, CA, as well as some of the scenarios that will be at the tournament. All of the tournament information is available here.

Additionally, the boys give a Beastmen Army review including a breakdown of Fred's own Beastmen list and his favorite model, the Doombull. But don't be fooled by his fancy talk, the Doombull dies just like everything else. You just need Arcane Bodkins or a good Amber Spear. Give it a listen here.

WaaaghPaca 2013 Army List

WaaaghPaca! 2013 is upon us all. My army list for this 2000 point tournament is a different Wood Elf list from the type of fast moving, all cavalry army I usually play. This list is more of a high shooting, but still mobile, MSU (multiple small units) style build. The army relies on a solid combination of defensive magic, massed shooting, redirection, and decent small combat blocks to mop up small enemy units. Here is the list I am taking to the tournament:

WaaaghPaca 2013 Rules and Scenarios

WaaaghPaca! 2013 is coming up fast and will be held January 19th and 20th in Waupaca, WI. The tournament is 2,000 points with the following restrictions: (1) special characters are allowed (ouch!); (2) Chaos Dwarfs are allowed; and (3) the tournament will use both a "Man of Intrigue" model and an objective marker. Additionally the tournament comes with some really interesting scoring rules and scenarios.

SCORING:
For 2013 the scoring of the tournament is as follows:

This Past Weekend January 7, 2013

I caught the flu. It was horrible. I was sick over most of the weekend and well into this week. Being sick is a physical and psychological drain. But being sick when one has to paint miniatures for an upcoming tournament, even worse!

This past weekend I only got to paint for a few hours before my resolve finally crumbled and my body fell into the couch watching the Marvel Superhero movies. However, before I crashed I did finish a couple of key projects.

This Past Weekend January 1, 2013

This past weekend (my second and last 4-day weekend!) and I got to do a little bit more painting and am making some decent progress on my Wood Elf army. I don't think that I will have everything painted to the level I want by WaaaghPaca! but I am working diligently to at least reduce the number of painted models that I will need to borrow. Also, I submitted by army list for WaaaghPaca! and will be posting it shortly so you can see what kind of ridiculous army I came up with for 2000 pts. (Hint, there are no fast cavalry models this time).

As for the painting projects I managed to complete 4 more Dryads!!! Putting my first unit at 7 finished models. I know that I will be able to at least finish 1 more model and get this unit completely done. Here are the four Dryads that I managed to finish:

Dryad #4

Dryad #5

Dryad #6

Dryad #7

As for other projects, I did not work on my Xmas miniature exchange miniature this weekend as I really wanted to finish my Dryads, but as the date for shipping comes closer I will be focusing more on getting that model done. I did, however, get a lot of additional hobbying stuff done while I was waiting for washes to dry.

First, I finished and marked the second movement tray for my second unit of Glade Riders. Each Glade Rider's base is also marked so that I know where it goes on the tray.

I also cut out foam spots for the Glade Rider units so that they will be easier for airplane travel as I have lots of tournaments coming up that require flights. These are also numbered so that I know which Glade Rider goes in each spot as each model is different.

Another foam tray!

And finally I managed to almost finish 4 more Glade Riders from the second Glade Rider unit. These models only need a few more additional highlights and will be ready for the table!

I hope everyone else's Holidays were good and that lots of hobbying and gaming was accomplished. This weekend I hope to finish the last Dryad for the first unit, work on the Pegasus Rider for the miniature exchange, and finish the second Glade Rider unit.
