Day 1 of the tournament ended on a high note with three wins and a max 60 Battle Points, but for Day 2 I was going to be up against the other undefeated player sitting at 53 points with the hardest list at the tournament. Then, after playing that game, I would still have one more game before the end of the day. How would my first tournament end? Let's dive in.

Dicehammer SoCal Age of Sigmar Grand Tournament: Day 1
Day 1 of the FIRST Dicehammer SoCal Age of Sigmar GT is in the books. I will give my overall tournament review in a couple days, but I want to briefly mention that the turn out for this GT level 2-day event was not spectacular. I believe that there were only 20 total sign-ups and several of those dropped on Day 1 leaving roughly 16 players. This kind of poor showing seems to be pretty regular in SoCal as players either don't want to play 2-day events (they regularly have as many or even more players for single-day events) or gaming groups don't want to travel to play games (the tournament was in San Diego so it can be a drive of up to three hours for areas of the SoCal scene and many players don't want to drive that both days or spend money on a hotel). Regardless, I felt like it was a good group of skilled players to try out my first games of Age of Sigmar with the Generals Handbook. Let's get into Day 1.

So I had to submit my army list for the tournament this weekend, and this is what I ended up going with after adjusting for available models and looking over the Pitched Battle scenarios again. Hopefully this weekend goes okay.

Dicehammer SoCal Age of Sigmar Grand Tournament: Tournament Prep
Next weekend, July 8 & 9, 2017, I will be attending the Dicehammer SoCal Age of Sigmar GT in sunny San Diego, California. This will be my first Age of Sigmar tournament since the game dropped! Can you believe it? My first Age of Sigmar event!

Kings of War: 2500 pts. Ratkin v. Orcs (February 25, 2017)
So while everyone else was out at the U.S. Masters Tournament, I was able to get in a 2500 point game against a local Kings of War player, Michael Murphy, and his new Orc army. On Saturdaym, Febrary 25, 2017, I swung down to Comic Kingdom in Reno, NV for a game. This was my first game of 2017 and the first game since taking Best General at the West Coast GT 2016 back in September, 2016.

Adventures in DnD: Session 3 (Part 1)
The
Stonehill Tavern sat empty except for three individuals waiting impatiently at
a long communal table in the middle of the room. The three stirred
uncomfortably, having not expected to be waiting so long in their armor and
travelling clothes. Rucksacks sat heavy, loaded down with food and essentials,
on their shoulders and their weapons, still held in scabbards, were strapped
across their waists or backs. The three were waiting, and had been waiting for
almost an hour, on the last of their group to return from upstairs and the inn’s
rooms. They had been sitting in silence except for the sounds of rhythmic breathing.
It was past mid-day, but still too early for the others to have wandered into
the inn after a day’s work and so they sat alone in the inn. Worse, they waited
without any drink as the bar in the small inn was awaiting another shipment of
ale; the last shipment having been waylaid or confiscated by the group of
bandits who had placed the small hamlet of Phandalin under their “protection” a
few weeks back. Finally, unable to take the uncomfortable silence of strangers
a moment longer, one of them spoke.

Update: March 1, 2017
Another month of 2017 has passed. This last month, I started painting a little bit more, trying to at least get three or four hours a week in every other week. I also managed to get in a game of Kings of War this last Saturday at my local game store while the U.S. Masters Tournament was taking place in Nashville. I gave up my spot on the West Coast team this year because I was not able to travel due to work and the impending birth of our second child (which as I write this should be coming any day now). I will have a full write-up of that game in about a week or so as I managed to track the game pretty closely while I was playing. My DnD group has also managed to get in a couple more games, though we are having some trouble clearing a dungeon due to some repeatedly bad dice roll (we've been in the same dungeon for three sessions already clearing only a few rooms at a time). Anyways, here's how the painting is coming along with the Ratkin army:
