Quake City Rumble: Final Wrap-up

Well, the Quake is over and done with. The results are up and my games are logged. All that is left to do is show off some of the amazing armies and models that were at this year's Quake. So without further ado, here you go:

Chris Watson's Warriors of Chaos
Here is an overview of Chris's beautiful and colorful army. Lots of character models and some very good edge highlighting make this entire army stand out.

Unit of Dragon Ogres.

First character model and conversion.                                                    Second character model.

Third character model.                                                                           Fourth character model.

Awesome unit of smelly, ugly, nasty looking Chaos Ogres!

Chris's unit of Chaos Warriors in which the vast majority of his characters live. This unit is a great example of edge highlighting and shows what can be done with just a couple of colors. On the table, this unit looks outstanding.

Finally, this is Chris's Daemon Prince. A year ago and such a creature would not be seen on a battlefield, but now they are everywhere. I especially like the eye coming out of the prince's stomach and the fact that except for his mutation, he is completely blind. I also like the wings, but I would be disappointed if I found out that the Daemon Prince was not marked Tzeentch with this paint scheme and conversion work.

Brettonian Army
I didn't find out whose Brettonian army this was, but I really liked the individual heraldry that was present on many of the models. It is almost all knights, and had a great display board.

The arrayed knights looking at the lady in the water.

Knight unit with all its heraldry.

Another knight unit with more heraldry.

"Big Jim" Adams - Lizardmen
This is Big Jim's army that he has been working on for years. It's a great looking Lizardmen army and I know that he was still up Friday night painting models before the Quake.

The army on its display board. This is a very bright and striking army and Jim has painted each individual scale with multiple highlight layers.

The "Skrox" unit. I like the yellowed skin look of the Kroxigors and the way it matches the skink's scale coloration. I know this unit itself is not completed yet, but the Krozigors are a good indication of the final paint level of the army.

The completed unit of Temple Guard. The orange on the shields matches the salamander units elsewhere in the army.

The Slann in all his floating glory.

The Saurus unit with flying conversion.

Another view of the same unit.

You will be crushed beneath the feet of this Engine of the Gods. That Steggadon looks angry!

Who rides a Carnosaur? This dude rides a Carnosaur! And an angry looking one at that. I like that the Carnosaur has a very distinct coloration from the other creatures and from the Lizardmen themselves. The grey skin with red scales is very striking. This is one bad ass model.

Ryan Smith - Vampire Counts - Army of Darkness
This was the coolest army theme that I saw all weekend. It was a Vampire Counts army done up from the movie Army of Darkness, including character models. It even had a moving windmill and little Ash monsters!

Ryan' army list. Very fluffy and fits the theme perfectly. Look at the magic items and how they follow the movie. This was a great addition to an awesome army.

The entire army on its display board. The windmill in the back carrying the Terrorgheist actually spun and the movement trays of each unit had quotes from the movie on them.

Ryan's Vargheists, swooping in to kill the poor knights. One knight is already dead and the others will be shortly.

One of the units of skeletons with quote from the movie.

Another unit of skeletons with the color scheme matching the vampiress.

Another skeleton unit with large banner made up of carrion feasting on a dead body. This was a really great looking banner.

Another unit of skeletons with crazy weapon conversions and a different color palette.

Beautifully painted knights!

The broken car as a chariot model. Awesome conversion!

Ghouls and little Ash creatures. I like the little Ashes the best as they have "Good Ash" tied down on one of the bases.

The Terrorgheist mounted on giant working windmill.

Another view of the Terrorgheist slowly crawling around the windmill to scream at its foes.

The "Wise Man." He is painted to match a unit of skeletons.

Evil witch model painted to match her unit.

Ash himself, including chainsaw and "boom stick." This model is in its iconic pose, painted correctly, and is just a striking character model. This was by far, the coolest single model I saw all weekend.

Fred Whitney - Daemons of Chaos
Fred has a heavily converted, water-themed Daemon army that he has been working on for years. This time, he has included some new models from the new book that really makes the army stand out.

The water daemons arrayed for battle.

Look out, its a shark! Or perhaps a Sharknado! This model counts as Fred's lord choice and is a hilarious figure. A great model to lead this army.

Fred's Soulgrinder. A giant daemonic octopus/squid/monster.

Fred's newly added Beasts of Nurgle. These are some great converted models that really stick with the water theme.

Ben Mitchell - High Elves
Ben painted up a couple of new models for his High Elf army this year. These new character models are my favorite.

Ben's army on display board.

Battle Standard Bearer's banner. This is a great example of the freehand that makes a unit standout.

The new wizard character that gets all of the signature spells. The model is in the process of casting a Fireball.

Ben's Level 4 with flowing script.

  3. Truly, this article is really one of the very best in the history of articles. I am an antique ’Article’ collector and I sometimes read some new articles if I find them interesting. And I found this one pretty fascinating and it should go into my collection. Very good work.
