WaaaghPaca: Update #6

With WaaaghPaca descending upon us this weekend, I wanted to take this opportunity to discuss the five scenarios that I (and 99 other players) will be playing.

Each round will use the Man of Intrigue model. The model may not be on a base larger than 50mm square and has the following rules:
  • Unless specified in the scenario, the MOI is attached to a core unit.
  • He has no stats and can't be attacked or otherwise interacted with.
  • He is deployed at the same time the unit he is attached to is deployed and he doesn't have to deploy with the same unit each game.
  • The MOI generates additional fortitude for your army equal to the rank bonus (to a maximum of +3) of the unit he is attached to.
Now, on to the actual rounds, themselves.

Round #1: Da First Scenario
Deployment is per Dawn Attack (pg. 145 of the BRB) with the following exception: the player who traveled the farthest to WaaaghPaca decides who picks table sides (and therefore deploys their entire army first). Before deploying any unit, choose the core unit the MOI will join. That unit does not have to roll for random deployment.

Battle points are awarded as follows:
  • 4 points (Won by 100 or more vp)
  • 3 points (Won or Lost by less than 100 vp)
  • 2 points (Lost by more than 300 vp)
  • 1 point (Lost by 300 vp or more)
  • +1 point if your MOI unit is in the opponent's deployment zone at the end of the game and your opponent's MOI is not in yours
My plan here is simple. As I only have to win by 100 points or more, I just need to pick off a few key units of my opponents (chaff and ranged shooting) and then stay away from any big dangerous blocks. My monsters should be able to utilize their high movement values to stay away from units that can kill them, while the fast cavalry runs around denying my opponent the chance to get points. If needed, I will throw all the monsters into the unit with my opponent's MOI just to ensure that I get the bonus point.

Round #2: Da Second Scenario
Deployment is per Meeting Engagement (pg. 149) with the following exception: the youngest player decides who chooses table sides (and therefore deploys their entire army first). The player that deployed first chooses who takes the first turn.

In this scenario, the MOI is deployed in a unit of opponent's choice. If you have 3 or more core units, it must be deployed in a core unit. But, if you have less than 3 core units, your opponent may place the MOI in either a core or special unit (I have five core units so I am not worried about where the MOI gets placed). Your opponent deploys that unit for you, at least 6" from the table edge, and it is always your first deployment. The MOI's unit may make a Vanguard move before the game begins.

Battle points are awarded as follows:
  • 4 points (Won by 100 or more vp)
  • 3 points (Won or Lost by less than 100 vp)
  • 2 points (Lost by more than 300 vp)
  • 1 point (Lost by 300 vp or more, but less than 1,000 vp)
  • 0 points (Lost by 1,000 vp or more)
  • +1 point if your opponent's MOI is dead or fled off the table and your MOI is still alive.
Battle plan here is to place the MOI in a unit that I know I can defeat and place it in such a way as to severely restrict both its vanguard move, and the placement of the rest of my opponent's army. Choosing something like a shooting unit or other large footprint unit with low armor (hopefully) right in the center of a battleline could really disrupt a plan. Here's hoping!

Round #3: Da Third Scenario
Deployment is per Blood and Glory (pg. 144) with the following exceptions: the player with the least facial hair deployes first. The game ends if a player is broken and the break point is 2 (so this is legitimate, out of the book Blood and Glory).

The MOI generates fortitude as described in the MOI rules. In addition, any wizard attached to the MOI's unit may enhance one cast or dispel attempt per phase by singing for at least 15 seconds during the roll. An enhanced cast or dispel changes all rolls of a "1" to a "6." This can cause an Irresistible Force, but if that occurs, the wizard must roll on the table twice and apply both results (Yikes!). If you do not have a wizard at any time, the MOI's unit may cast a signature spell from any of the 8 lores of magic as if a level one wizard. If an Irresistible Force is rolled on that spell, the unit takes d6 strength 10 hits in place of a miscast.

Battle points are awarded as follows:
  • 4 points (Your opponent's Fortitude was broken)
  • 3 points (Won by 100 vp or more)
  • 2 points (Won or lost the game by less than 100 vp)
  • 1 point (Lost by 100 vp or more)
  • 0 points (Your Fortitude was broken!)
  • +1 point if you sing exactly three (3) times
This round is going to be difficult depending on my opponent. I am not too worried about getting my Fortitude broken as I have 7 Fortitude to start the round. Breaking my opponent will be more difficult as I am finding myself having problems dealing with large blocks of high Initiative, high Strength troops when I can't get a Soulblight off. If this is where the Fortitude is, I am looking for a 4 in this game instead of a 5.

Round#4: Da Fourth Scenario
Deployment is per Battleline (pg. 145) and the MOI generates fortitude as described in the MOI's rules. No other special rules are in the scenario.

Battle points are awarded as follows:
  • 4 points (Win by 100 vp or more)
  • 3 points (Won or lost the game by less than 100 vp)
  • 2 points (Lost by more than 100 vp but less than 300 vp)
  • 1 point (Lost by 300 vp or more, but less than 1,000 vp)
  • 0 points (Lost by 1,000 vp or more)
  • +1 point if you control more table quarters than your opponent (based on Fortitude)
My plan here is just to go for the 100 point win, carefully choosing my battles and what units to sacrifice in order to make sure I control the most table quarters with my Dark Rider units at the end of the game.

Round #5: Da Final Scenario
Deployment is per Battleline (pg. 145) and the MOI generates fortitude as described in the MOI's rules. No other special rules are in the scenario.

Battle points are awarded as follows:
  • 4 points (Win by 100 vp or more)
  • 3 points (Won or lost the game by less than 100 vp)
  • 2 points (Lost by more than 100 vp but less than 300 vp)
  • 1 point (Lost by 300 vp or more, but less than 1,000 vp)
  • 0 points (Lost by 1,000 vp or more)
  • +1 point if you had more Fortitude within 12" of the center of the board at game's end
Same as above, my plan here is just to go for the 100 point win. Then moving in to the center of the board with my Dark Riders and flying Fortitude. Hopefully, I can go second on this round and make the most of the last turn.
